Area Update
Boris Johnson's plans to open up London's lost rivers were boosted after a mixed use scheme on the River Wandle in Wandsworth was recently granted planning consent. The go-ahead for 'Gardens at Riverside Quarter' is the final phase of Riverside Quarter. As a part of the scheme, which comprises 395 apartments and 120,000 sq ft of commercial and leisure space, the developer will fund the widening of the River Wandle where it meets the Thames. There will also be a new leisure centre for residents with a pool and a gym.
Wandsworth's Southside Shopping centre, situated just a few minute's walk from The Retreat, continues to attract new, high calibre retailers. A new GAP store opened at the beginning of September, joining brands such as Waitrose, H&M, River Island, The Body Shop, Books etc, Boots and HMV.
In a bid to boost the numbers of electric cars on Wandsworth's roads, the council has now installed a charging point in the car park of the Wandle Recreation Centre in Mapleton Road and as part of a one year pilot scheme, users will be able to charge their cars free of charge.

June Site Update
The developer informs us that over the past quarter, progress has leapt forward assisted by the construction of the top storey, the installation of the roof and fitting of numerous windows. This has created a dry environment for a number of site trades and enabled the first fix electrics and plumbing to advance. At the time of writing the timber cladding is being put into place on the front of the building.
Whilst there is still much to do we are advised by the developer that progress is still on track. In the meantime, the developer has worked to advance a ground floor apartment to provide a show suite that demonstrates the high level of specification and attention to detail that will be enjoyed by the final occupants. The show suite is open Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays (am only).

February Site Update
The developer has informed us that the alteration work to the original building is progressing well. Where necessary, the walls have been changed substantially to accommodate the smart new design and layout of the development. The roof has been removed and the team on site are working to erect additional walls to create the outline of the individual apartments.
New drainage runs are being laid and once complete the ground floor structure will be finished. We should shortly see the new floor level and roof being constructed.

November Site Update
Work continues towards stripping back the existing building to its core, which is being supplemented by additional structural elements to facilitate the conversion to residential use. The concrete lift core to the east side of the development has been poured and the block work has also begun. Work to make good the internal structure is well underway and renovations to the external framework continue with door lintels currently being fitted. Underpinning to the west side of the development has begun and the car park entrance opening has been cut into the existing brickwork facade.

February Area Update
The gentrification of Earlsfield continues and plans for a new development next to Earlsfield station, said to include a M&S Simply Food store, have been approved.
The proposal for a four-storey building, comprising 32 flats and a ground floor shop unit on the builders yard site in Magdalen Road, has been given the green light by Wandsworth Council.
Minerva, the developer behind Wandsworth’s most ambitious regeneration plans has announced that it has secured the project financing and amassed the cash reserves to take forward its London development portfolio. Its plans for the former Ram Brewery in Wandsworth will see the site transformed into a into a high quality destination including shops, restaurants and a microbrewery, spanning a total of 1 million square feet. A detailed planning application submission is expected within the next few weeks.
Wandsworth has again been ranked as one of the nation’s highest performing councils for its use of resources, according to local government watchdog the Audit Commission. The audit commission report reveals Wandsworth to be the only council in London (and one of only two throughout England and Wales) to achieve the top marks in all five measures of performance, including value for money. Wandsworth’s Council tax is the lowest in the capital and it remains the safest inner London borough.
November Area Update
Wandsworth’s Southside Shopping Centre (just 700 metres from The Retreat) is currently undergoing a £20m extension, which will see an additional 30,000 sq ft of shops at the Garratt Lane entrance. Clothing retailer Gap has already committed to opening a store in the refurbished central mall, joining Waitrose, Next, HMV, Mothercare, H&M, a 14-screen Cineworld cinema and Virgin Active health club. The redevelopment project is expected to complete by April 2009.
Progress at one of the area’s most significant regeneration projects, the Ram Brewery site, continues. Just a ten minute walk from the Retreat, the historic brewery will be transformed into a high quality destination including shops, restaurants and a microbrewery, spanning a total of 1 million square feet. Minerva, the project’s developer is expected to submit its much anticipated planning application by the end of 2007 and it is likely that the local council will insist that provision is made for improvements to Wandsworth’s road network and one-way system.
